Expanding Saudi Cities

[edit]

Greetings fellow wikipedians, I seen how other cities' page look like, and I think that all cities should have a page that look like that. So far I added the Infobox template (the box on the right that holds city's information) and the Saudi Arabian cities navagator. We would like for you all to go through the cities and trun it from a stub to a beautiful page. Thank you. --Muhaidib 01:01, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Firefox rendering problems?

[edit]

Hey there, I use both Internet Explorer 6.0 and Mozilla Firefox, IE renders fine but firefox has some problems, does anyone know how to fix it?

Mozilla Firefox has a problem with Wondows versions , try to use the new version Windows Vista i think this problem has been fixed , but im not so sure :)Ammar 06:23, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Population figure

[edit]

Can someone double check the population figures in this article. The number cited in the first paragraph (over 7 million) looks much too high in my eyes. And worse, it's inconsistent with the population growth graph. - HiJazzey 04:41, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The population figure of 7,900,000 for the city seems dubious, especailly considering that the "urban" and "metro" population estimates are much below 7.9 Million. Can someone provide specific citations for the number or change them? These inconsistencies need to be fixed.

idea !

[edit]

could we change the word "Turks" in section of History to the word "Ottomans" , because i believe it been destroyed by "arab" Ottomans by the army of Mohammed Ali Pasha's son .Ammar 17:21, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Did somebody rip the description for Riyadh from a tourist brocures: 'Skyscrapers towering over buildings exuding old-world charm' - please!! Can we please have a page that it is little less sycophantic and a little more neutral. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jinjaa (talkcontribs).

Tone and neutrality

[edit]

This article reads badly in some areas like a tourism brochure. Any thoughts from someone with expertise regarding this city? --NMChico24 22:26, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree 100%. -- Slacker 09:30, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've reworked the "City Districts" section to sound more encyclopedic. The article as a whole though needs some expansion. Slacker 09:45, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wadis

[edit]

This is incorrect, but I'm not sure how to fix it: With many wadis (former water courses, now dry) in the vicinity, Riyadh has been, since antiquity, a fertile area set in the heartland of the Arabian Peninsula. A wadi is not a "former" water course, it's a river that's dry 99% of the year but floods when it rains hard. But has Riyadh really been a fertile area since antiquity? Jpatokal 02:40, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What are you disputing exactly? That the area was fertile? Fertility is a quality of the land, and since we know it's fertile now and has been for well over 1500 years, it's safe to say it was fertile for centuries before that. Or are you disputing that the area has been settled since antiquity? It's well known that the area was already settled centuries before Islam. I don't know if that's old enough for your definition of antiquity. Slacker 22:09, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ideas Needed

[edit]

This article should be much longer than this! There is so much to write about. Too bad I don't write that good. I am willing to contribute anyways.

Please suggest an idea and I will try to write about it and include it in the article. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.182.183.175 (talk) 13:38, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Flag and Coat of Arm of Riyadh

[edit]

I just visited the page to read info on Riyadh when I saw the flag and coat of arms displayed is saudi arabia's, not the city of riyadh's own flag and coat of arm. does riyadh has its own flag and coat of arms? or is the flag and coat of arms of saudi arabia is the same as riyadh's (due to status of riyadh as the capital city)? w_tanoto (talk) 03:10, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Timezone

[edit]

The infobox for this article says that this city uses EAT (East Africa Time). But if you click the link to the article about EAT, the article suggests that EAT is used exclusively in East Africa. Most puzzling. 17:51, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

The "Religious significance" section under culture

[edit]

This part is poorly written and doesn't really say much. I'd recommend either rewriting it to make sense or getting rid of it all together. What do you think? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.95.229.161 (talk) 02:39, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Have a look at Wikimedia Commons' page for Riyadh, what are those images of parts of the body, doctors and parts of a t-shirt?? I think someone vandalized that page. Please admin fix it. Thanks!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.32.44.176 (talk) 03:11, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Demographic info?

[edit]

Is there more detailed demographic information available, listing ethnic background, religious affiliation, family unit info, etc.? I know from personal acquaintance that the city is home to more than just Saudis (which the article also mentions), but the information regarding this rather important aspect of the city is extremely bare. Climate source not coherent

[edit]

Hello, I noticed that the source used for the "climate" section is not coherent with the temperature given in the table. For example the extrem max temperature given for july in the article is 52°C, in the source it is only 48°C. It has to be corrected or sourced. 194.138.39.62 (talk) 14:13, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

July record high temperature 1985-2010

[edit]

Hello,

What is the source of the July record high temperature that says 51.0°C?

When analyzing the database from reference 19 in this article combined with the Meteociel-observations, I can only find 48.0°C (in the year 1987) as the highest recorded temperature in July.

When the source of ″51.0°C″ is not available, it would probably be more useful to change it to ″48.0°C″. Dexy talk 23:26, 29 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of "Homosexual Activity and LGBTQ" section

[edit]

I am happy to explain my revert (Special:Diff/1113316339) of this section. As I said on my talk page: It was awkwardly written, appeared to pass judgment in a non-neutral point of view, contained excessively long quotes from non-free sources, and large swathes were, in fact, original research. Obviously, it should not be re-added without consensus on this talk page, and it certainly shouldn't be edit-warred into the article. DanCherek (talk) 23:28, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Water

[edit]

Bit weird that the word "water" is not mentioned once in an article about a 7 million people city in the middle of the desert - or did I miss it? Where does Riad get its water? Is it all desalination pumped from the sea? --Echosmoke (talk) 17:59, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Typo? Banu or Bani Hanifa?

[edit]

In the Early History section, there is a mention and link of the Banu Hanifa tribe. However, later down it is spelled as Bani Hanifa, but links to the same page. Is this a typo, or just a variant in spelling? 2400:4050:A640:800:ED2E:4F77:3CEF:E5A (talk) 13:48, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
